The New Mexico Nursing Education Consortium (NMNEC) is pleased to share its 2026 Report: Advancing Nursing Education Together — From Shared Curriculum to Statewide Impact.
This year’s report has a different focus and format than previous annual reports. Rather than providing a traditional year-in-review, the 2026 report offers an organizational update on NMNEC’s evolution, impact, and direction for the future.
For more than 15 years, NMNEC has demonstrated the power of statewide collaboration in nursing education. What began in 2010 as a voluntary collaboration among New Mexico public universities and community colleges has grown into a statewide infrastructure supporting shared curriculum, faculty collaboration, program evaluation, educational innovation, and continuous quality improvement.
The report highlights NMNEC’s continued impact, including its support of 12 participating public nursing programs and approximately 1,600 nursing students annually, as well as more than 3,200 nursing graduates from 2021–2022 through 2024–2025.
The 2026 report also looks ahead to the next phase of NMNEC’s work, including the Statewide LPN Curriculum Project, which extends the consortium’s collaborative model to practical nursing education and seeks to strengthen pathways from LPN preparation into RN education.
An important organizational development highlighted in the report is the establishment of NMNEC Support, a professional New Mexico 501(c)(3) nonprofit created to provide the administrative, operational, and financial infrastructure needed to sustain and advance NMNEC’s work. The report also highlights NMNEC’s 2026 fiscal sponsorship partnership with the New Mexico Community Foundation and the consortium’s ongoing efforts to build a sustainable, diversified funding model.
As NMNEC looks to the future, the focus remains on strengthening statewide collaboration, expanding educational pathways, fostering innovation, responding to emerging workforce needs, and ensuring the organizational capacity needed to support nursing education for generations to come.
