In October 2025, the New Mexico Nursing Education Consortium (NMNEC) Curriculum Committee launched the NMNEC Standards Review Subcommittee to strengthen statewide alignment with national standards in nursing education. The new group includes representatives from both university BSN and community college ADN programs and will focus on aligning the NMNEC curriculum with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Essentials and Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) standards.

During its first meeting, members emphasized collaboration and equal representation across institutions. Lori Cheney (community college ADN) and Maggie Faber (university BSN) were selected as co-chairs, with plans to rotate the roles. The subcommittee will begin by reviewing and refining NMNEC’s end-of-program outcomes—starting with Outcome 1—and aims to review one to two outcomes per meeting.

As the subcommittee begins its work, it will focus on refining outcomes, mapping key concepts, and promoting statewide consistency to advance accessible, high-quality nursing education across New Mexico.
