The New Mexico Nursing Education Consortium (NMNEC) is pleased to recognize Cheryl Lombardi, DNP, MSN, RN, ACNS-BC, Associate Professor of Nursing and Simulation Coordinator at New Mexico State University, as the recipient of the 2026–2027 NMNEC Nurse Educator Endowment Award in Honor of Nancy Morton, sponsored by Karen Brown.

This award supports NMNEC nurse educators pursuing professional development opportunities that enhance teaching excellence and strengthen nursing education across New Mexico.

As Faculty Simulation Coordinator for Levels 3–5, Dr. Lombardi has made significant contributions to the NMNEC curriculum through the development and implementation of innovative simulation experiences, faculty development programs, and statewide curriculum alignment efforts. Her leadership has advanced simulation-based learning, standardized educational experiences across campuses, and strengthened competency-based nursing education for NMNEC students.

The award will support Dr. Lombardi’s participation in professional development opportunities, including the SIM Ghosts and IMSH conferences, as well as continued engagement in NMNEC statewide faculty activities. These experiences will further enhance her expertise in simulation pedagogy, faculty development, and program leadership, supporting her ongoing efforts to advance simulation excellence and nursing education throughout New Mexico.
